Dynamic automated coupling of electrical networks and electricity points to optimize energy use – “Energy Clutch”

ENERGOTEST Diagnostic and Automation Limited Liability Company began the development of a modular, scalable general automation system capable of dynamic, near real-time energy monitoring, decision support, and intervention on the user side between the electricity supply network and the electricity points on the user side. According to the decision made by the National Ministry of Research, Development and Innovation on May 8, 2024, it was awarded HUF 673,918,492 for financing the development within the framework of the application with the identification number 2023-1.1.1-PIACI_FÓKUSZ-2024-00047. The aim of the project is to radically reduce energy consumption by dynamically linking electrical networks and electrical energy points, to increase the efficiency of energy use, and to significantly reduce power losses and harmful emissions (CO2 and particles) into the environment. As a result of the research and development, an online energy monitoring system will be created, which will reduce network energy consumption at the company level, optimize the consumption in time according to the service conditions of the electricity supplier, feed-back will be adjusted to the permitted limit, and network feedback or so-called reactive power will not distort the electricity network. An intelligent, dynamic energy-IT connection will be established between the electricity supplier and the company. The local automation system cooperates with the electricity supplier’s IT system as an information node. The linked electricity system includes an on-line energy monitoring measurement system with real-time data evaluation and artificial intelligence-based algorithm analyses. The linked energy system has an automated dynamic control system. The protection built into the information nodes enables simple and effective implementation of cybersecurity. The so-called coupled energy systems are also popular with other energy carriers, and the savings achieved by their introduction range between 30-90% according to the applicant company’s experience to date. The resulting system, which has reached TRL9 readiness, enables the rationalization of both operating and investment costs by locally calculating energy production and investment costs more accurately and up-to-dately. The project is being implemented with the professional support of Energotest Kft.’s own expert and development team and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen.
